“Emerson” Mixed Media Portrait Painter

When I first started painting, I would not have considered myself a mixed media portrait painter, I just started to paint in all different mediums. I always loved portraits but I never knew it was my calling. It wasn’t until I started to incorporate my portrait photography into my paintings that it finally started to click for me.

Inspiration for this Piece:

I was trying out a new color here. I’ve always been into really rich colors, but this blue just really popped. When I started to paint it, I just wanted to give that depth and feel to the painting. I was also going through an emotional time, and so I added in the writing and scratches and drips because that’s what I was feeling at the time and I needed to get those emotions out.

Other Details:

As a photographer and portrait artist, I take the photographs and then turn them into mixed media portrait art. Interested in learning more about this process or seeing a bit of it? Check out this behind-the-scenes video of my work!

“Emerson” is an acrylic mixed media portrait painting based on a portrait photograph. This piece uses vivid colors and is 25.25 by 25.25 framed.

The Portrait Painting Artist:

Although I call myself a portrait painting artist, it is hard to categorize my work as one thing specifically as it falls under: Pop art, Modern art, Mixed Media, and street art. What I do to create art is a multifaceted process that is done all by hand. It’s a labor of love where each piece will have hours of work poured into it until I feel like it’s finally finished.

What is a Mixed Media Portrait Painter?

Mixed media art refers to a visual art form that combines a variety of media in a single artwork. In my art, this usually means combining my photography with painting. I use a variety of unique materials: gold and silver leaf, a color changing technique, etc.
