black and white mixed media painting of girl's face, close up

When I first started painting, I would not have considered myself a mixed media portrait artist, I just started to paint in all different mediums. I always loved portraits but I never knew it was my calling. It wasn’t until I started to incorporate my portrait photography into my paintings that it finally started to click for me.

Inspiration for this Piece:

This painting is based on a photo of one of my favorite girls to shoot with, Bethiye. The original photo had such a great mood to it. I had played around with the juxtaposition, doing a lighter painting with gold on it to try to lighten the mood, and then I decided to really go deeper into the mood with this painting. I wanted to make this piece of art feel moody and almost like you can feel her soul.

Other Details:

As a portrait painting artist, I take the photographs and then turn them into contemporary portrait paintings. Interested in learning more about this process or seeing a bit of it? Check out this behind-the-scenes video of my work!

“Thea” is an acrylic mixed media portrait painting based on a portrait photograph. This piece uses vivid paints and is 25.25 by 25.25 framed.

The Portrait Painting Artist:

Although I call myself a portrait painting artist, it is hard to categorize my work as one thing specifically as it falls under: Pop art, Modern art, Mixed Media, and street art. What I do to create art is a multifaceted process that is done all by hand. It’s a labor of love where each piece will have hours of work poured into it until I feel like it’s finally finished.

What is Mixed Media Art/Portrait Painting?

Mixed media art refers to a visual art form that combines a variety of media in a single artwork. In my art, this usually means combining my photography with painting. I use a variety of unique materials: gold and silver leaf, a color changing technique, etc.
